사진가 박기호는 1960년 서울 출생 했으며 1973년 도미, 1986 Rhode Island of School of Design에서 사진학과를 졸업했다. 세계적인 사진가 Bruce Davidson의 Assistant로 발탁되어 그의 여러 작업에 참여하였다.

졸업 후 안정된 직장을 뒤로 하고 1987년 'Newsweek'지의 한국 파견 사진기자로 귀국하여, 그 후 20년 동안 한국에서 Businessweek, Fortune, Time, Forbes 등의 잡지들과 박기호만의 시각으로 다양한 커머셜 작업을 했다.

 2007년 인물사진에 오브제를 덧붙인 3차원적인 사진을 시도한 ‘Photography & Texture’로 첫 개인전을 가진 후, 돌연 미국으로 건너갔다. Rhode Island School of Design 중심으로 학업과 작업을 병행하던 중

침체에 빠진 미국 경제를 다큐멘터리화한 ‘Everything Must Go’ 는 그가 그 동안 그의 사진의 중심에 있던 인물에서 사물 또는 공간으로의 전환된 그의 시각을 말해준다. 빈 공간이 말하는 메시지에 귀를 기울여 듣기를 시도한 이 작품들로 2011년 New York과 Boston에서 개인전을 가졌다.

그 후 한국에 돌아와 사라져 가는 것들에 대한 애정과 추억을 가지고

철거 되어가는 재개발 지역의 빈 집들이 쏟아내는 메시지를 거의 2년

동안 촬영했으며 2014년 ‘One Season’ 이라는 제목으로 전시회를 가졌다. 현재 연세대학교 송도 국제 캠퍼스와 연세 대학교 대학원에서 가르치고 있다.

‘here, Pause for the Unknown Discovery’

Whatever it is, there must be something worthy of discovery for a photographer when he gas consistently walked the same path for over half a century. Photographer Ki Ho Park’s solo exhibition called ‘Here, Pause for the Unknown Discovery’ contains a series of poetic photographs that are far different from what he has shown over the years. Unlike the glittering photographs that decorated covers of Time, Fortune, Madame Figaro and other international publications, there pictures of abandon yards, houses, and landscapes spear of unknown beauty that we often ignore.

 

About Ki Ho Park

In 2007, after working as a successful photographer for over two decades, Ki Ho Park packed his bags and went back to the United States to achieve his goal for an MFA degree at RISD. For the next three years, Ki Ho traveled from coast to coast documenting empty storefronts around the United States. These poetic photographs spoke of the failing American economy. With his newly gained sensibility, Ki Ho Park has been documenting towns in Seoul that are deserted before they ard demolished for new high-rise projects. Next summer, these photographs called ‘What People have Left Behind’ will be exhibited in Richelieu, France, and our current show contains a few fo those samples.
